Board of Directors

The Steering Group are the directors of, and will make executive decisions for EnviroSkills, a not for profit company. EnviroSkills is a limited company under guarantee without a share capital. EnviroSkills is registered as trading as EnviroSkillnet to comply with funding regulations. The board of directors have agreed to meet every two months.

The board of directors will link between the network members and the Network Manager. The Network Manager will facilitate the smooth running of the network in conjunction with an Administrative Assistant. The network will operate from rented office accommodation in Rubicon Centre, Bishopstown, Cork.

The Network Manager will liaise with network members through the board of directors and the company representatives. She will also interface with training providers, accreditation bodies and consultants. Academic advice will be further provided by NUIC. A number of industry experts i.e. the customers of the network members were involved in discussions at development stage and will continue to be involved as the network develops.

The diverse range of company profile within the network is reflected in the composition of the board of directors. Ranging from commercial enterprises consisting of large companies to medium to sole traders. Not for profit organisations are also represented to ensure a complete representation of network members.

Mr Conor Kelleher

His reasons for joining the network include the following:
"EnviroSkillnet offers a chance to gain some much needed training in areas of natural history, environmental management and best practice ecological survey. As a sole trader in Ecology in Ireland, I find that the opportunities for continuing professional development to be very poor when compared to those in the UK where I lived for many years. In the UK, both the Field Studies Council and the Institute of Ecological and Environmental Management has provided environmental and ecological training for many years. It is important to keep abreast of new developments in one's chosen field of work and it would be better to have training for such in Ireland dealing with local issues and Irish habitats, wildlife etc."

Dr Sharon Parr

Sharon is Project Scientist to an EU Research programme (Burren Life). Sharon is a botanist who spent a number of two years creating a map of the broad habitats of the Burren using satellite imagery. This work placed particular emphasis on mapping grasslands and scrub. Previously, she spent 13 years in UCD working as a large animal parasitologist where she specialised in red water, liver fluke, the control of worms in cattle, sheep and horses and drug-resistance in parasites and then a number of years managing an environmental education/awareness centre in Co. Offaly.

Dr Lesley Lewis

After several years as a freelance ecological consultant, Lesley started the business Limosa Environmental in January 2004. Lesley works with associate ecologists and environmental scientists to provide teams that can meet the needs of each project undertaken. Her specialist knowledge and on-going research interests include avian ecology, intertidal and shorebird ecology with particular experience in the area of ecosystem impacts of coastal developments.

As the principal consultant, Lesley has managed and undertaken ecological impact assessments (as part of EIA) for a wide range of projects (e.g. road projects, windfarm developments, landfill/waste transfer station development, coastal pipeline construction, waste water treatment plants, brown field re-development) together with a variety of other work including ecological assessments/monitoring for waste and IPCC licence applications. Lesley has also contributed to projects including the National Parks & Wildlife Service SAC/SPA management plans, the 2004/05 SPA Boundary Review Programme and the Irish Wildlife Manual Series. Lesley was recently involved in the production of draft Biodiversity Action Plans (BAPs) for Cork City and Cork County Councils.

Ms Aine Ryan

Aine is currently Operations Director running the environmental division of the international engineering consultancy, RPS Group and has significant management experience in this position. She has had a varied background in many aspects of environmental assessment, planning and implementation. One of the projects she is currently involved in is the rerouting of the Shell pipeline. Her experience has included working with BIM, as well as other consultancy firms in the area of environmental waste management.

Mr Roger Gillespie

Roger is all Ireland Training Manager of an international engineering consultancy, White Young, Green (WYG). His experience in coordinating courses among the many offices of WYG and managing a large staff will be of benefit to the network.

Dr Fidelma Butler

Fidelma is an academic member of staff at the Department of Zoology, Ecology and Plant Science (ZEPS) in National University Ireland, Cork (NUIC). Her responsibilities include the development of continuing professional development (CPD) courses in ecology, biodiversity and related disciplines. Her research interests include mammals and their interaction with transport infrastructure. Fidelma is an ecologist and previously worked as an environmental consultant with Terrascope Environmental Consultancy. Fidelma has experience of project management both nationally and internationally and as a result has a large number of contacts in the environmental consultancy sector. Fidelma is currently involved with an Accel project (Pest Control) and this led to her proposing the EnviroSkills network.

Ms Sinead Hickey

Sinead runs the environmental division of the SWS Group and has a significant managerial role in many multi million Euro projects. Her previous experience includes project management. The projects range from environmental impact assessments of road schemes to large scale wind farm developments.
